Feng Shui and the Colors to Support It

One of the most important aspects of Feng Shui is use of color. Color can bring light in or push it away. In the same way, colors may also change your mood; some colors give off feelings of content while others promote high-energy.

Most times, bright colors tend to be associated with high energy and the feeling is known as yang energy. Meanwhile, pastel or soft colors provide a sense of yin energy.

Usually, yang is masculine and bold energy while yin is feminine and calm energy. In Feng Shui, you have reached a state of perfection when your yin and yang energies are balances.

Some special colors are associated with particular areas of the home. In these areas, having the right colors in the palette will energize the Chi and empower it. For instance, in the northeast corner, white is said to bring high levels of motivation, quick thinking, sharp mindedness and knowledge.

Having yellow in a room’s center brings power, attention, opportunities, and change. A soft cream or translucent finish in the north means there is independence, spirituality, and sexuality.

In the northwest, the use or gray or silver means control, dignity, organization, self-control, and responsibility. The west side is for pink where romance, playfulness and contentedness are right at home.

Blue or dark green sparks imagination, creativity, sensitivity, or new ideas in the southeast. In the east, a bright green means ambition, confidence, or self-esteem are high. Also energy and enthusiasm are stimulated in the east.

Of course, painting isn’t the only option to cleansing your Chi. Adding pillows, pictures, or blankets to a room are a good way to test the Chi with a temporary fix. Also, area rugs, wall hangings, or plaques are other ways to instantaneously change the feel of a room. Lamps, with shades of a certain color, or tinted light bulbs can be a fun and innovative way to give a dull room, a fun splash of color.

If your budget can take a hit, buying all new furniture (and don’t forget the drapes) is one of the best ways to better your Feng Shui. If the furniture is immovable, then an easy way, for a big change, is purchasing slipcovers or throws in a certain color.

Also, by using a specific color, you can bring attention to it or a feature nearby. Using brighter colors or ones which stand out will also put an item straight into the spotlight.

Feng Shui is also applied when it comes to your wardrobe. Wearing certain colors may lead you to feel a certain way or set the scene for particular situations. Wearing red is a good thing when you want all eyes on you and with the addition of some fun metal jewelry; your high-energy ensemble is complete.

For a more assertive and self-confident look, choose bright green or vertical lines…better yet, a combination of both! Grays are worn by leaders and greens and blues aid your communication and creativity. Relaxation and an inner peace are found when you slip into loose fitting cream-colored clothing.

Wearing yellows and browns lead you to feel compassionate.
